Decolonisation is not a metaphor

  • Decolonisation is often treated as a metaphor, or subsumed by other discussions of social justice or anti racism.
  • This can be read as part of a 'move to innocence' on the part of settlers, or an attempt to reconcile settler guilt and complicity.
  • Decolonisation needs to be treated as it's own thing, separate from other civil justice initiatives, in order to not be robbed of its intent and power.
